In the Media: December 2016

In the media is a fortnightly round-up of features written by, about or containing female writers that have appeared during the previous fortnight and I think are insightful, interesting and/or thought provoking. Linking to them is not necessarily a sign that I agree with everything that’s said but it’s definitely an indication that they’ve made me think. I’m using the term ‘media’ to include social media, so links to blog posts as well as as traditional media are likely and the categories used are a guide, not definitives.

Post-election coverage is still top of the tree this fortnight:

The other big story has been the revelation that Maria Schneider was raped in Last Tango in Paris:

  1. do you read all those sources???? Id never do anything else if I had subscriptions to all of them. As it is I struggle with just one daily newspaper and my online feeds.

    • At the least, I skim read; I wouldn’t include anything I considered offensive so I have to have looked at them. They’re also really interesting and I learn a lot from putting the feature together – it’s had a significant impact on my own thinking and writing.

As for how I find time: I rarely watch TV; I read whenever there’s an opportunity to do so (and have done since I was a kid), and I’m adept at juggling different things due to the way I have to/choose to organise my life.

      • So many avid readers say they don’t watch tv and thats how they find time to read. I don’t watch much myself but do seem to spend a lot of time on the blogs and then suddenly its time for bed and I haven’t read a page
