About/Contact

The Writes of Woman is a home for books by women — across eras, genres, and styles. Here you’ll find reviews (fiction and non-fiction, literary and commercial, with the occasional YA), interviews with women writers, and selected video conversations on my YouTube channel.

What I look for

I gravitate towards literary fiction, but I read widely and intentionally. I’m especially committed to highlighting:

  • translated fiction
  • working-class writing
  • books by women of colour
  • books by women who identify as LGBTQ+

If a story is set in New York, it already has my attention.

Research interests

Alongside reviewing, I’m a Creative Writing PhD researcher at Sheffield Hallam University. My academic curiosities include circus/sideshow narratives, utopia and dystopia, contemporary reworkings of fairytales, and feminist writing (fiction and non-fiction).

Reading quirks

One small preference: I rarely enjoy books narrated by very young children (under 12). There are exceptions — My Name Is Leon by Kit de Waal is one I genuinely admire.

Beyond the blog

My writing has appeared in Ozy, Fiction Uncovered, and the Tilted Axis Press blog, and I’ve contributed to the Waterstones blog. I’ve been shortlisted for The White Review Prize and longlisted for the Manchester Fiction Prize.
I work as Digital Engagement Coordinator & Copywriter for Manchester Literature Festival, and I’ve served as blogger-in-residence at Jersey Festival of Words. I also chair literary events (Manchester Literature Festival, Jersey Festival of Words, Off the Shelf, and Waterstones). In 2018, I joined BBC Radio 3’s Free Thinking to talk about the circus in literature.

Relationships & love (the other corner of the site)

Alongside books, I publish practical, thoughtful reviews and guidance around relationships and love — grounded in reading, culture, and real-world dynamics rather than quick takes. It’s the same lens: curiosity, nuance, and respect for women’s voices.
